Zebra illustration

Hey everyone, I'm going to post some other work along the way while I post my word of the week drawings. Hope you enjoy this !

I used India ink in a brush pen and a piece of watercolor board for this illustration.

I wanted to challenge myself in this piece by not only trying a different set of techniques, but also making the zebra have many intricacies.

I had to be very careful because of the bleeding ink but I took my time and made the zebra come to life.

Was very pleased with the end result and it also went to a very appreciative home :)

Word of the Week #2 Ocean

Hey everyone! Thanks again for visiting! For this post I decided to draw a creature from the depths of our oceans. :^)

I took out my sketchbook and started to design this man made monster with pencil first.

Soon after the first lines were together my brain started going after a mechanical almost sub-like vessel.

I really wanted capture the feel of the angler with this bold animated feel to it.

The digital process was very fun in for me because I liked the illustration so much!

Even with only the outline and minor shading completed, I really saw the fish come to life.

I chose orange for the base because it's such a vibrant color, and is also complementary to the blue ocean it resides in :^)

It's nice being able to zoom in and achieve whatever minor details you're looking for before completing any illustration.

I hope you liked this word of the week illustration, stay tuned for more posts !

Word of the Week #1 Myth

Hey everyone. My name is Erik Sciarra and im a graphic designer based out of southern Ontario.
Erik James Design is my company and i provide various design services.
I'm passionate about illustration and photography.

I am going to do a series of characters and other sorts of illustrations using the word of the week!

I took a few pictures as I progressed through the illustration to show my progress.

So I decided to use the word 'myth' from the word of the week.
I chose to draw a cyclops •^)

I used pencil to layout the Cyclops first, and then eventually started to shade him with marker and ink.

I wanted to capture the depth of his his hair and beard by using my brush pen to get the line definition I wanted.

Before I took my image to the digital level I wanted to have lots of texture and shading to define the illustration further.
I was very pleased with the end result and everybody has seemed to like the digital rendering. :)

Stay tuned for more illustrations and check out my other posts !
Thank you for visiting!
